Learning Log 7

Last friday, we had our Romeo and Juliet performance. I felt that our group had try to done our very best in this performance. Although we had some minor mistakes, we had put in our best effort and time as we almost every day stay back and practice for this examination.During the performance, I was quite nervous and scared and when we were dancing, my legs were actually shaking from fear! Fortunately, we had our masks on.

I would like to recommend this activity to my junior as this is an opportunity to show that they might have talents in their acting skills. Also, i find this activity interesting although sometimes our group members would argue and quarrel, i find that we could bond together even more closer and have a better friendship.

We saw the performance of Commitement and they exceed my expectations. They were very good in their acting skills and did not looked nervous at all.Especially the kissing scene, they looked very natural and relaxed. The 'tybalt' shows great expression of anger and it looked very real.

In conclusion, I find this performance an memorable incident that will forever etched in memory for a long time.

Learning Log 6

I had learn how to approach an unseen text. Step one is to understand the overall meaning of the text. Given any text, we need to understand what the text is saying. Identifying subject matter and overall mood of the text.

Step two is to do a close reading. What literary devices does the writer use to convey meaning to the reader? This includes imagery, diction and prose techniques. Why the writer chooses these devices. What effects do these devices create on the reader?

Step three is to provide a philosophical insight and an informed personal response. What is the message that the text is trying to convey to the reader? What is the effect of the text of the text on the reader? How do you think the reader may feel after reading the text? What issues about the world and human nature does the text highlight?

In lesson one, I learnt how to identify and highlight the imagery used in a paragraph. I choose three images and commented why I think the author chooses this devices and the effect they make. In lesson two, I learnt about sound devices. In lesson three, I learn about diction and sentence structures.

In conclusion, I learn a lot of things during the three lessons. I am able to identify the imagery and diction and sentence structure.

Learning Log 5

I have learnt that an unseen poem or prose passage is one that I may not have read before. I learnt that when reading the poem, I have to pick out the difficult words or phrases. I learnt that making notes help improves on our thoughts. When we read the poem, we had to read at least twice.

I also learnt that when answering questions, we have to read the poem carefully. Underline keywords, plan your answer. Quote form the text. Try to use your own words whenever possible, and expressing your feelings. We should not rush through reading the poem. We should not start answering before reading all the instructions and questions. Refrain from quoting long passages.

I also learnt how to quote sentences. I should try to keep the quotation short. For chapter 20, I learnt about organizing and writing the essay. When doing comprehension, we should not spend more than five minutes reading the passage. Then jolt down the impression of the text's meaning. Secondly, is to interpret the text, then analysis the text. Lastly, is to insight and response. An organized introduction consists of three components. Firstly. a clear asseration which forms the basic of your essay. An overall view of the point or issue and a summary of the key points which will serve as evidence in support of your view.

When writing the body of the essay, use the PEEP principle: Point, Evidence, Elaboration and Personal response. Then you should have some evidence to support your point. Besides that, you also need to elaborate on your point. After that, express how you feel towards the character or event. Lastly, make a conclusion. I also learnt that there are two types of irony. Situational irony and Verbal irony. It can be used to create humour, criticise and add to the sense of tragedy.

In conclusion, I find the notes useful for us to study and easy to understand.

Learning Log 4

The witch performance happened on Monday. Most of the groups performed, however three groups including my group performed on Thursday as we were busy with SYF rehearsal. On Thursday, during recess, we had to do some make up and prepared our props. We had to spent our time rehearsing the scene. Then we used trash bags as our costumes and we decided to paint them as they seemed dull.Soon, recess was over and we had to hurry to AVA room to perform.

I was the first witch. Qian Qi was the second witch and Nazirah was the third witch.Soon the performance begun. The first group performed by Ling Shan, XinYi and JiaYi were well-prepared and everything went smoothly. When our group started performing, I almost forgot my lines as I was too nervous. Also, our group were not well-prepared and there were many mistakes made. To top it off, My witch hat kept slipping off and I felt awkward.

Lastly, the last group performed. They were very well-prepared but unfortunately, the timing was too quick and they were not able to catch up with it. It was funny. However, I felt that they were very good as they were courageous and did not seemed to look nervous when they performed. I felt that they had put in a lot of time and effort in the performance. From this performance, I learnt how to cooperate well with my friends and learnt not to have stage fright.

Learning Log 3

Last week, we were divided into groups of three for the Act 1 Scene 1 by Mrs Woo.We had to imitate the witches voices using either high pitch or low pitch.I feels that it would be embarrassing and nervous to present it in front of our classmates. However I feels that this is an opportunity to master my skills and to learn how to perform in front of many people with courage so that I will be prepared to present or do these type of activities.Next, we had a lesson on Act 1 Scene 2. The original text was rather difficult to understand and interpret without reading the modern text.It was challenging and confusing as i did not really understand what the passage was talking about. As for the comic grid, I did not fully understand what to do as our group was very quiet and there were not much discussion about it.But we were able to get some ideas how to proceed with the comic grid.

Learning Log 2

I have seen Mrs Woo pretending to be a witch. After that, Mrs Woo get some students to perform. Only did then did I realise that it requires a lot of courage. The best group was Ali's group. They practise it with emotion. Overall, I find the lessons interesting and funny:) After that, we have a discussion on superstitions.Several groups went up to present. Some of the examples of superstitions are -eg. you will get 7 years of bad luck from breaking a mirror. You should not sweep the floor during Chinese New Year as it is believed that it is sweeping money out. The most interesting superstitions is -People say "God bless you" when u sneeze as sneezing attracts evil spirits and saying "God bless you"wards off evil spirits.

Learning Log 1

I have learnt that Cinquain consists of 5 lines. The first line is about the title and it contains one word. The second line is about description and it contains two words. The third line is about action and it contains three words. The fourth line is about feeling and it contains four words. The fifth line is about reflection on the title and it contains only one word.
I find the lessons fun and interesting as we have a lot of group work and discussion. Our group did a Cinquain on spiders. It was creative. Our group members are very co-operative and it was fun working together as a team.
Suggestions for improvement is that our literature teacher could be less strict. Our lessons could be more enjoyable if we are allowed to play games for a while as sometimes literature lessons are boring. Also, the literature teacher should give us more examples about Cinquain.
